Title: Graduate Teaching Assistantships (8 positions expected)
Terms of Appointment: Summer 2009
Salary: Contingent on budget and enrollment, approx. $2,860
Duties: To fulfill all the teaching responsibilities, especially to (a) teach one section of Spanish 111, 212 or 216 during the summer session as assigned by the department; as a five credit hour course, each section of SPAN 111 is taught by a two-person team (b) collaborate with peers to develop a course syllabus and maintain program integrity; (c) prepare all quizzes and exams, and to administer and grade all tests, quizzes, and homework assignments designed for the course; (d) hold regular office hours for the assistance of students; (e) maintain a clear grade book with a record of all student evaluations; (f) administer a “Student Course Evaluation” at the end of the summer session; (g) comply with all University, school, and/or departmental policies and to perform other related duties as assigned. These positions are on the Lawrence campus.
Required qualifications:
Degree-seeking graduate student in good standing at the University of Kansas, continuing graduate studies at KU in Fall 2009
Experience as a GTA in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese
Fluency in Spanish and English
Completion of SPAN 801 or the equivalent
Academic preparation sufficient to teach courses at the required level
Eligible to hold a 50% GTA appointment at KU
Preferred qualifications:
Graduate student in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese
MA degree completed
Excellent teaching record (observations, student evaluations of teaching, collegial participation in shared teaching responsibilities)
Experience with Sol y viento for SPAN 111
Experience with Mundo 21 for SPAN 212 and 216. Participation in Acceso is a plus.

In addition to the letter, please include a current KU ARTS form and a list of all courses taught as a GTA at KU, semester by semester, including summers.
